David,
I'm so glad you liked the book! It's been on the bestseller list for over a year now, which makes me happy because it really deserves the success. Aibileen was my favorite character too--she just seemed so real to me!

I'm also super excited for the movie. They have so much great material to work with!

OK I have finished it, which was not hard as I could not put the thing down :-)

What a recommendation, something I would not have picked out without reading it here on Daemonsbooks!

I think Aibileen was my favourite character, I loved the way she kept trying to keep Mae Mobley on the straight and narrow, also the courage that must have taken in a place like Jackson is unbelievable and although this is fiction it is because of people like Aibileen that we now have equality.

I also heard that they are making a movie about this which I for one will definately be going to see.

One final thing, at the end of the book I read the 'about the author' section and realized she grew up in Jackson Mississippi and had a maid, when she describes the maid I realized that both Minny and Aibileen are based on the authors real life maid. Makes it even better!

Again thank you Kristen!

I'm about 3/4 of the way through this book and think it is absolutely brilliant. The style and quality of writing is superb, you really become emotionally invested in the characters, the last book I felt like that about was Outlander by Dianne Gabaldon.

Will let you know my final verdict when done, but so far what a great recommendation that otherwise I would not have even picked up.

You're right Kristen. I am reading The Help right now, and I love it! It's hard to put it down. I can't wait to find out what happens next :-)

Sandie - I think you will like it. It's easily the best book I've read this year.

Great review Kristen! I actually started reading the first chapter through the Kindle app on my iPhone as a sample and I was thinking of getting the book, but now I am definitely getting it :-)
