Ian McEwan’s SOLAR Nominated for a Comic Fiction Award

In a surprise move, this year’s Bolinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize for Comic Fiction has added SOLAR from writer Ian McEwan. McEwan is well known for his book Atonement which was adapted in the Oscar nominated movie Atonement

While not especially known for comic writing, McEwan is one of those writers who is “never recognised for how funny he is” according to Peter, the director of the Hay festival and Wodehouse judge.

The other nominees on the shortlist for the prize are Paul Murray (“Skippy Dies”), Tiffany Murray (“Diamond Star Halo”), David Nicholls (“One Day”) and Malcolm Pryce (“From Aberystwyth With Love”).

The winner of the award will be announced at the Hay literary festival in late May.
