Philip K. Dick’s Journal To Be Published

Philip K. Dick

Last week it was announced that Philip K. Dick’s journal “Exegesis” will be published in the fall of 2011 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.  The journal is part of sci-fi lore because it is thought to be the basis upon which many of Dick’s future works are built upon. The origins of the journal are also a great story upon itself, it is a collection of visions that Dick claims he had in 1974 while taking medication after having his wisdom teeth removed.  Publishing the journal will help provide a more in depth view of Dick’s creative process and the origins of great tales like “We can Remember It For You Wholesale” (basis of the movie Total Recall) and “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” (which is the basis of the classic sci-fi film Bladerunner).

In the spirit of the journals being published next year, I wanted to encourage everyone to read some of Dick’s works. Below are some links to reviews of his best known works:

The Man In the High Castle (winner of 1963 Hugo Award) – Infinity Plus, Guy Salvidge
