Apparently, Gossip Girl is a dangerous book series; that is, if you can believe the Florida mother who refused to return four Gossip Girl-inspired library books because of their content returned them after almost 2 years, officials say.
According to UPI, Tina Harden of Longwood, Fla., refused to return the offending books since 2008, because she thought they were too racy for teens. She also wanted to make a point by taking the books hostage so that she could get media attention to discuss the issue.
This is one of those stories that make you shake your head and wonder about the kind of world we live in. What kind of person thinks that censorship is OK? If you disagree with the content of a book, then don’t read it. Anointing oneself as the moral police is definitely not a solution.
What do you think of this? Is it ever OK to keep a library book hostage to spare young minds? Leave me a comment below and let me know what you think.
