eBook and Then Print: The New Way

Random House of Canada announced on June 15, 2010 that they would be releasing the eBook version of The Very Thought of You by Rosie Alison more than a month before the print edition. This is the first time the publisher has released an eBook before its print version.

The Very Thought of You is a finalist for UK’s prestigious Orange Prize, which is why Random House is anxious to make it available. While the eBook is available immediately, the trade paperback will go on sale in Canada on July 27, 2010.

This move is unusual, but it sure to be embraced by readers in Canada. Kindle users were ready to revolt last year after publishers delayed certain eBook releases (like Stephen King’s Under the Dome) due to a price war with Amazon. Personally, I would love it if more publishers followed Random House’s lead and made more eBooks available before the print edition.
