Fox 2000 believes there is potential for a successful film adaptation of the teen novel “Before I Fall.” The studio optioned the film rights to the novel on Thursday and has tapped Maria Maggenti to adapt the story for the big screen.
The novel from author Lauren Oliver is a bit like “Groundhog’s Day” set in a high school. In the story a young woman in high school is forced to live what is likely the last day of her life over and over again until she has gotten everything settled appropriately. Jon Shestack and Ginny Pennekamp will produce and co-produce the film, respectively.
This is the second project for Maggenti at Fox 2000 having recently completed a rewrite on the film “Monte Carlo,” which the studio is producing along with Regency and Walden Media. Maggenti’s other works include the role of staff writer on “90210,” and writing and directing the film “Puccini for Beginners.”
