Charlaine Harris Spills Some Spoilers At Comic Con

Charlaine Harris

Author Charlaine Harris was honored with her very own panel at San Diego Comic Con on July 22, 2010. Thankfully, for those of us who couldn’t attend, Zap2it.com has excellent coverage of the panel over on their Comic Con blog. One of the things I love about Charlaine Harris is that she is a woman who speaks her mind, and that comes across in the panel’s transcript. Here are some of the highlights:

Spoilers for Sookie Stackhouse Book 11 and more
Harris says that Eric wants Sookie to become a vampire and tells her so in Book 11. He apparently feels that this is the next logical step. But according to Harris, “Sookie will never become a vampire.”

She also says that Bubba will be back in Book 11. Yay, Bubba!

A new anthology, Death’s Excellent Vacation, will be out on August 3 and Harris’ short story features “Sookie and Pam and the stripper pole.”

The Sookie Stackhouse Companion that will be out in February 2011 will contain secret emails between Bill and Eric, as well as an original novella about Sam and Sookie attending Sam’s brother’s wedding (Quinn the weretiger also makes an appearance).

Harper Connelly News
Harris confirmed what most of us already knew—the Harper Connelly series is over. She says, “I felt I had said everything about Harper I had to say. I try very hard to quit when I think I’m running out of gas on a project.” However, the Harper Connelly comic book is still in the works.

Upcoming projects
After finishing Sookie Stackhouse Book 11, Harris is going to start a new project. The only details are that it’s a graphic novel and she will be working with author Christopher Golden.

Other interesting tidbits
Zap2it says, “Sookie’s fairy blood does not have anything to do with her telepathy.” Say whaaaaat?????

Don’t expect any True Blood characters to show up in her books. But she does say, “I love Jessica too and wish I thought of her first.”

Harris doesn’t like the Team Eric, Team Bill mentality because it’s “counterproductive” to her work.

When asked if she’s Team Edward or Team Jacob she says, “Ok, so you’re joking, right?”

Wow, there is a LOT of information here! I think CH has previously stated that Sookie would never become a vampire, but it’s interesting to hear that she still feels that way and hasn’t changed her mind. Of course, Sookie could still become a vampire on True Blood since the show doesn’t always follow the books.

I don’t usually read her short stories, but Sookie + Pam + stripper pole = awesome, right? It looks like I’ll be reading The Sookie Stackhouse Companion too. When Sam asked Sookie to go with him to the wedding in Dead in the Family, I figured that would happen in Book 11 but I guess not. It’s interesting that Quinn will be in that story too. Perhaps he is the party planner for the wedding?

The thing that’s really blowing my mind is that Sookie’s fairy blood isn’t responsible for her telepathy. WHAT? I thought that had been established. Am I the only one who’s surprised by this?

Well, like I said, there’s lots of interesting information here. Let me know what you think about it in the comments!

I also thought her telepathy with linked with her fairy blood! Can’t wait for book 11 and the companion book.

If I remember correctly, Niall has said that telepathy is not a fairy trait.

Thanks, Lorielle. I didn’t remember that.
