‘WriteGirl’s’ 100% Success Rate

Any organization that devotes it’s time to helping our youth read and write is okay by me. I recently got interested in a Los Angeles based group called ‘WriteGirl’ and thought I’d share this awesome nonprofit organization with all of you!

About Write Girl:

Founded in Los Angeles in 2001, WriteGirl is a nonprofit creative writing organization that pairs professional women writers with teen girls (ages 13-18) for weekly one-on-one mentoring and monthly creative writing workshops. WriteGirl’s award-winning publications are available nationwide online and select bookstores, with distribution by Small Press Distribution (www.spdbooks.org). Every girl who has completed the WriteGirl program has not only graduated from high school, but also has enrolled in college. That 100% success rate is in sharp contrast to the 50% drop-out rates at many of the large, urban high schools in Los Angeles. WriteGirl is the 2010 California Nonprofit of the yaer and to date has helped more than 3,600 at-risk teen girls find their inner voices through writing.

WriteGirl has one numerous awards and has helped thousand of at-risk teenage girls gain self esteem, communication skills, and mentoring relationships. To learn more about WriteGirl visit www.writegirl.org
