Charlie St. Cloud Gets a Sequel

Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood

Galley Cat is reporting that author Ben Sherwood has sold the sequel to Charlie St. Cloud to Ballantine Bantam Dell. Sherwood says, “I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to dive back into Charlie St. Cloud’s world and to take the characters in new directions and I very privileged to work with Jennifer Hershey and the entire Ballantine Bantam Dell team.”

The movie version of Charlie St. Cloud, starring Zac Efron, opened last weekend in sixth place, earning 12.1 million. The story is about a cemetery caretaker who can see ghosts and frequently talks with his dead brother’s spirit. He is drawn to a young woman training to sail around the world, only he doesn’t believe he deserves love due to the guilt he feels over the car accident that killed his little brother.

So has anybody read Charlie St. Cloud? Is it a book that needed a sequel? Let me know in the comments!

I’ve only read the first half so far, but I really can’t see this being a book requiring a sequel.
