When Life Imitates Art: Eat, Pray, Love

In the book Eat, Pray, Love (as soon to be movie staring Julia Roberts) the author Elizabeth Gilbert reinvents herself after a nasty divorce by spending a year traveling to Italy, India, and Indonesia. In the book, Gilbert finds inner peace by spending time in an Ashram in India meditating, working, and doing yoga.

Inspired by her success, fans of Eat, Pray, Love have started taking their own journeys to self discovery, reports the New York Post. The only problem with this is that without proper planning, a search for inner peace can bring nothing but turmoil.

Here are a couple important things to keep in mind before planning your trip:

1. Elizabeth Gilbert was a successful writer and experienced traveler before planning her trip. She financed her year abroad with the advance from her book and made contacts in each place before her visit.

2. Some places that may advertise themselves as an Ashram are nothing more than a cult designed to get your money. Make sure you know all the facts before you make any travel arrangements.

Check out the full article for the whole story. I’m actually in the middle of this book right now and am really enjoying it so far. I should have my review of it up soon, so keep your eye out for it! Eat, Pray, Love the movie is in theaters this Friday, August 13th.
