EAT, PRAY, LOVE Movie Boosts Book Sales

Eat, Pray, Love book sales

The Nielsen Company has an interesting article about how the publicity surrounding movie adaptations can help boost book sales. Thanks to the Eat, Pray, Love movie, Elizabeth Gilbert’s book has sold twice as many copies so far in 2010 than it did in all of 2009. Ninety-four thousand copies of the book were sold the week ending on August 1 alone, which is the same amount sold during the entire year of 2006.

Jonathan Nowell, President of Nielsen Book says, “While the literary world is often the source of creative content for Hollywood, the relationship is reciprocal, as we often see Hollywood releases boosting book sales.” Julie & Julia, The Notebook, Dear John, and My Sister’s Keeper all experienced a book-to-movie bounce.

The Eat, Pray, Love movie, starring Julia Roberts, will be in theaters on Friday, August 13.
