THE SWORD Vol 1 FIRE Comic Book [Review]
So recently I was introduced to the world of comic books by Eric and Sandie (click here to learn more). Since I liked their first recommendation, Fables, so much I decided to check out another one from their list. I went with The Sword because the name appealed to the fantasy geek in me.
The Sword is about a young paraplegic girl named Dara Brighton. She has a blissfully normal life: she goes to college, has a best friend, loving parents and a supportive sister. All this changes one night when three strangers show up at her house and murder her whole family right before her eyes. From this moment you instantly become hooked and you’ll spend the rest of the volume searching for answers. Why did they murder her parents? Was there more to her father than met the eye?
One thing that really endeared me to The Sword is the main character Dara. At the beginning of the comic she is a mild mannered girl in a wheel chair and by the end she is a sword wielding bad ass that inflicts the type of carnage that would make Beatrix Kiddo raise an eyebrow in respect. Although you don’t get too many answers in FIRE, I feel like a good amount of ground work was placed for future volumes.
I’ve already picked up the other 3 volumes in this series and can’t wait to check them out. If you’ve already read The Sword, leave me a comment and let me know what you thought. Just please don’t give away any spoilers for future volumes!
