HUNGER GAMES Movie News: Chloe Moretz as Katniss?

With the release of Mockingjay, the Hunger Games trilogy is complete, leaving us fans with time to speculate on the upcoming movie. The question we’re all asking is “Who will play Katniss?” According to USA Today, Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz is currently the front-runner for the role. They say Kristen Stewart is probably on the shortlist as well.

Author Suzanne Collins wrote the screenplay for The Hunger Games movie herself. Production on the movie will start next year.

Personally, I’d like to see the kids played by unknown actors, like they did with Harry Potter. I think a well-known actress like Kristen Stewart would just be distracting. What do you think? Can you see Chloe Moretz as Katniss? How about Kristen Stewart?

Chloe Moretz is waaay better than Kristen Stewart. Despite her age, her acting is way superior than Kristen Stewart. She has both the chops for action & drama acting, not like Kristen which only shine in drama act (that too, is doubting).

I think that if they cast Kristen Stewart, then a lot fans will refuse to see the movie. They can’t have a well known actress like be the star of another popular book series. Besides, she’s just way to old. And the girl from kickass is way to young. She’s be a good prim. I think the actress, Saoirse Ronan, from City of Ember and the Lovely Bones would be a great Katniss.

I don’t think they’ll cast actors/actress that had been in young adult books movie adaptation before, like Kristen, Dakota, Jodelle (Twilight), Saoirse (City of Ember), A.Daddario (Percy J), Emma W (Harry P). The image will be overlap.

At least Chloe M never been in any YA books movie before, & I agree she’s good in both drama & action roles. Not many can do that, esp. one her age.

I’m mixed up about this. Her face seems a little too sweet for the role, in my opinion. But they can always make someone look quite plain but pretty at the same time (I hope they don’t forget to make her grow her eyebrows for the part). HAHA.

She doesn’t get every great roles b’coz of Kick Ass. She got Abby in Let Me In before Kick Ass was released, Hugo Cabret & The Fields after Kick Ass released just for few weeks.

Simple say is, she got the roles b’coz of her acting. Some of her roles, she got it with difficult audition too, not just automatically handed to her.

After a lot of Hollywood people have seen her in Kick-A**, now that she’s a hot commodity, everyone is going to want her in their movie because she’s CHLOE MORETZ! >D Yes, she can act, but film makers cast actors/actresses in movies all the time just because they’re famous. They may very well do that with THG, because she’s Chloe-fricken-Moretz! It’s just not right. Get someone older, can act well, isn’t known, and fits the description better for Katniss.

before Kick-@## was popular. When she get Let Me In, people still
refer to her as “that 2nd girl in audition.” When she get Hugo Cabret, only critics/journalists called her “the next big thing”, most people still curious that time as to why Martin Scorsese so insisted on her, said “I want you in my movie!”

She’s very talented indeed. I’m not too mind about looks. As for age,if she can act very well and capture Katniss essence, I’m willing to bet on her. Katniss is v.difficult role to play by an unknown or actress who just has the looks and right age but not ability to act.

Kristen Stewart it one of the all time most terrible actresses and I would hate to see her in this role. However, I think Chloe would be perfect! She really impressed me in Kick Ass and I would love to see her play Katniss. Just dye her hair brown and she would be good to go!

I think Chloe Moretz would be entertaining to watch, giving the movie a good following and giving it a “pop” factor. Other-wise, a new, fresh face is always fun to watch. Especially since the book is about a “unknown” girl getting to know someone who’s getting thrown into the Hunger Games and becoming a big success. How awesome it would be to see this movie give tons of success to a new actress. And/or actor: Peeta and Gale. Lets see what happens!

Neither of them should be Katniss. Chloe is waaaaaaaay to young. Katniss is SIXTEEN!!! U can ususally make people look younger, but its difficult to make them look older. Plus, if Prim is four years younger than Katniss, she won’t even be old enough to be picked for the games.

Kristen Stewert can’t act, at least not in the action scenes. And she is waaaay to awkward for the romance that need to be in the film. We all know that from Twilight. If she is picked for the movie, and makes it another horror like Twilight, sooooo many people will be mad. I don’t want this series screwed up!!!!

They need someone new, or at least not that well known.

I am both a fan of Twilight and The Hunger Games series. I’ve been with Hunger Games since the beginning. And I mean no disrespect to Kristen Stewart or Dakota Fanning whatsoever when I say this but…

If Katniss is played by either Kristen or Dakota I will boycott the Hunger Games movie and urge all of my friends to do the same. I won’t see it in the theater. I won’t buy the DVD. I won’t rent it from Netflix or OnDemand. I won’t borrow it from a friend for FREE.

Here’s why: Kristen and Dakota, while beautiful girls and good actresses ARE NOT RIGHT for the part of Katniss. The ONLY reason they would be cast is to try and bring in an audience because of their famous names. That is the wrong reason to cast an actor or actress in any movie… let alone something such as the Hunger Games which, let’s face it, is such a eerily strange and moving story that it would be a crime to turn this into a Hollywood money-making machine.

I can guarantee Lion’s Gate, if they cast the RIGHT person for this part and not just a famous person for the sake of fame, then the movie will naturally make money because fans will see it again and again.

Let’s not have another travesty that was Catherine Hardwick’s loose & campy interpretation of Twilight. By the way, major props to Chris Weitz and David Slade for bringing some dignity back to that series.

Lion’s Gate, please do what you have to do to please the fans on this one. That’s where your money is. We’re out there – I’ve been watching this fan base grow from the beginning. It’s “catching fire,” pun intended. There’s no reason to make this movie if you’re not going to do it for the fans. Period.

That said, yeah, I could totally see Chloe as Katniss if they darken her hair. She’s a little young, but they could make her look older I think. If not Chloe, then it should be some other lesser known actress. But they’d be on the right track with her.

Agree. Honestly, I’m not big fan of Chloe Grace Moretz before. One day, I saw her Let Me In audition tape, then search & find some of her pics with brunette hair & serious expression. Dunno why I suddenly thought of her as great for Katniss. Then I tried to watch Kick Ass & Diary of Wimpy Kid, her latest films. And man, I’m completely sold!

Lionsgate is already in the right track if they consider Chloe.

This series was one of my favorites, and I would love to see a movie put out. Granted it’s well made. Which it sounds like it will be. I agree that unknowns is the way to go, and I think Lionsgate will agree lol – they can pay unknowns way less, and this is the kind of project that doesn’t require celebs to sell it as there is already a huge fan base for the books.

They should also avoid anything Twilight franchise – actors/directos/etc. with a ten foot pole. Hunger Games has the potential to be a far higher calibre film franchise if they do it right!

I think that they should go completely unknown for the main characters. I think I might scream if Anyone from the production of Twilight even touched hunger games. The younger girl does seem too young. They should find someone who has the right hair color, eye color, and is her exact age.

I would love Chloe Moretz as Rue or Prim, not Katniss. Katniss is 16-17 in the books. Moretz is 13 and definitely does not look older than her age. I would be heartbroken if such a baby-faced child would be cast as an older teenager who has to act as an adult. With that being said, Kristen Stewart already ruined Twilight for me. She better not ruin Hunger Games, too.
