THE SWORD VOL 2: WATER by The Luna Brothers [Review]
So in Vol 2 Dara Brighton sets out with her friends Justin and Julie to the Bahamas in search of the god who murdered her sister, Zakros. What I liked about this volume is that we got some back story about the 3 guys people that murdered Dara’s family. I also liked how you don’t get all the answers in volume 2. I still have no idea what the deal is with Dara’s father and how Dara ended up in the wheel chair – things I’m hoping to find out in future volumes. There are some good flashbacks in volume 2 which leads me to believe I’ll find out everything by the end.
What I didn’t like about this particular volume, and why I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars was that some of it was too unbelievable. I always wince a little bit when I use that word to describe a work that so obviously fictional but it’s true. Dara and her friends show up to the Bahamas, walk into a restaurant and Zakros is right there. I know the Bahamas isn’t a big place, but I felt like they should of made it a little more difficult to find somebody that is supposedly so powerful.
Overall though, the comic was great. Dara is still a revenge fueled, sword weidling bad-ass and even though you feel like you can predict where the series is going there are still enough surprises thrown in to keep it interesting. I can’t wait to check out Vol 3: Earth, which I am starting right now! If you’ve read The Sword: Vol 2: Water, please leave me a comment and let me know what you thought. Just please no spoilers as I have not read the other books in the series yet
