‘It Gets Better’ Book Planned

Dutton, an imprint of Penguin, recently announced plans to publish a book inspired by the videos created for the It Gets Better Project.

Dan Savage created the It Gets Better Project about a month ago in response to several suicides by LGBT teenagers who were the victims of bullying. Hundreds of people, including President Obama, Ellen Degeneres, and Neil Patrick Harris, have uploaded videos telling teens that their lives will improve in the future.

According to the New York Times, It Gets Better will be a collection of essays by “celebrities and ordinary people who want to share their stories.” The book is due in March 2011.

Savage said he would donate “the proceeds from the book to organizations supporting gay youth.”
