James Patterson Has Sold 1 Million Kindle eBooks

Amazon announced yesterday that James Patterson has sold over 1 million Kindle ebooks (1,005,803 to be exact). He is only the second author to reach this mark, making him the second member of the “Kindle Million Club,” which recognizes authors whose books have sold over 1 million copies in the Kindle Store. This only includes paid Kindle sales, not free downloads.

Stieg Larsson, author of the Millennium Trilogy, was the first author to hit the 1 million mark. Larsson’s three books—The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest—are among the top ten bestselling Kindle books of all time.

It’s actually pretty amazing that Larsson beat Patterson to the 1 million mark since Larsson has only published three books (albeit insanely popular ones) versus Patterson’s catalog of more than 65 books.

Patterson’s latest book, Don’t Blink, is currently number 31 on the Kindle bestseller list. All three of Larsson’s books are still in the top ten.

Like many authors, James Patterson started out with a book back in the days when iPads and Android devices wheren’t around in 1976. And of course he wanted to get this book published. It sold about 10,000 copies, now look at him. With Amazon helping many authors to get things out there I deem this a role model for many to go. Certainly not all of them will go blockbuster, however it makes it so much easier for quality writers to get their voice heard. And i like that because I like reading.
