Borders Launches Price Matching Program

Borders recently announced a “Low Price Promise,” a new in-store program promising to match a local competing brick and mortar store’s advertised price on items that Borders has in-stock.

Just make sure you read the fine print. According to Border’s website, the following restrictions apply to the price matching:
The item must be in-stock at Borders
You must bring in a printed ad from a local competitor
Not applicable to Internet prices or ads (i.e. Amazon)
Not valid at Waldenbooks or Borders Express stores
Not in effect Thanksgiving day through the Sunday after Thanksgiving
It doesn’t apply to ebooks, digital downloads, food and drink, or gift cards (see their website for a full list of exclusions).

If you meet the criteria, the good news is that the retailer will price match items previously purchased from Borders within the company’s standard 30-day return and exchange window.

Borders also has what it calls the “In-Stock Promise,” which assures consumers if they don’t find an item in stock at a Borders store, and it’s available on Borders.com, Borders will find it and pay the shipping costs to the customer’s home.

Is it for all merchandise or only books? This is great if they actually stock new TV on DVD/Blu-Ray releases. Then I could finally use the Borders GCs I get with my Discover Card points.

I didn’t see DVDs on the excluded list, so I think you could use it for that. Good idea!
