E-Readers For All This Holiday

The world of e-readers has been ablaze courtesy of the Amazon Kindle for much of the last year, but with the upcoming holiday season around the corner things are expected to get hotter. Now there is not only more competition in the market, but supplies are high ahead of the holiday shopping bonanza.

Major retailers such as Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart will have e-readers well stocked on their shelves, and listed at reasonable prices. Many are expected to sell for under $150. While hardcovers have traditionally flown off the shelves at this time of year, many publishing houses and booksellers are expect the trend this year to skew in favor of giving e-readers as gifts.

The Amazon Kindle remains the dominant force in the e-reader market, but Apple’s iPad and the Nook from Barnes & Noble are emerging as strong competitors. There are an estimated nine million e-readers in circulation in the U.S. right now and that number is expected to reach nearly 11 million after the holiday season.
