Harry Potter 2011 Book Challenge

Harry Potter Challenge 2011 - Daemon's Books

Welcome to the first Daemon’s Books challenge, which is also the first 2011 challenge to start off the year. And since this year also marks the complete end of the Harry Potter series with the 8th and final movie coming out on July 15, we thought this was the perfect time to relive the entire series one more time to get ready for the final chapter.

So what does the challenge entail? Well, we will be reading books 1-7 (one book a month) and we encourage everyone to join us and participate. This will hopefully be a great opportunity for people who have already read the books to relive them with other people once agin. And for those who haven’t read them yet, well this is the perfect time to start.

But why should I participate, you might ask. Well in addition to monthly giveaways, we will have one BIG giveaway at the end of the challenge that you will not want to miss.

And to add to the excitement, Daemon’s Books is also partnering with its sister site, Daemon’s Movies, which will be hosting its own Harry Potter movie challenge in parallel. You can find all the information for the Daemon’s Movies Harry Potter challenge here. Feel free to participate in both challenges or just the one that appeals to you. I’ll of course be taking part in both.

You can see all our coverage of the Harry Potter challenge here.

So here are a few things you need to know about this Harry Potter challenge if you would like to participate:

How To Participate:

Each month:

Step 1: Read the assigned book for that month (see schedule above)

Step 2: Write a review or opinion piece about the book on either your blog or any of the following places:

Step 3: Starting February 1, 2011 and at the beginning of each subsequent month we will have a post up for you to share links to your reviews, opinion pieces or to write comments (designated comment section). This will count as proof of your participation.

Note: Each proof of participation will give you one entry into our final big and exciting giveaway. There will be only one entry per book (no multiple entries even if you put multiple links). I’m looking forward to the challenge! Especially rereading book 7 because that’s the only book I’ve only read once. Of course, I’ll probably read it before watching the movie 😉

    • http://www.daemonsbooks.com/author/sandie/ Sandie

Haha, yeah, I want to experience the movie before re-reading the book, but I’m weird like that, I’m sure other people will read before too.

As for me, I only read Book 1, 2, 3, and 7 once, so that’s definitely exciting! Can’t wait to get started. I have the books all ready to go :-)

  • Elda

I love reading and loved all Harry Potter’s books. I am sure I will enjoy reading all of them over again.

So glad to have you on board!

  • http://fallingletters.blogspot.com/ Reno

I’m very glad I stumbled upon this challenge! I only read all the HP once (I never really got that into it ^^;) and I’ve been thinking it’s about time I read them again.

    • http://www.daemonsbooks.com/author/sandie/ Sandie

Reno – We’re really happy you’ll be joining us! Hopefully, this time you’ll enjoy them more :-)

  • David

Really looking forward to reading book one again, remember being waaay younger when I read it and it is the book that got me into reading.

    Great Challenge!!

David – So excited! Me too, that’s why I wanted to do it, because I was really young when I started reading them and I would like to experience them in a different way nowadays.

I love rereading the Harry Potter books, so it’s great to have another reason to reread them! Maybe reading them at a rate of one a month I’ll be able to get my fiancé/husband (as of January 1st) to actually read his copies!

    • http://www.daemonstv.com/ Sandie

So glad you will be joining us. And yes, isn’t it great to have an excuse to re-read them :)

And yes, let’s get your fiancé/husband reading his copies. He might become a fan too!

I just signed up, I’m so excited to start rereading this series again.

    • http://www.daemonstv.com/ Sandie

Yay! So happy you’re joining us :)

I’m excited. I stopped by the library today to pick up a book and the first Harry Potter book had also arrived for me. Can’t wait to start it. I read the first 3 books before movie 1 came out, so I feel like I’m reading it for the first time. :)

  • shannon

cool but why do you need 8 moths to read them all i can read the series in 2-3days lol

    • http://www.daemonstv.com/ Sandie

Wow, if I were to read the entire series in 2-3 days that would probably mean no sleeping (and even then I’m not sure I could finish), where’s the fun in that? :)

We decided that one book a month is the perfect amount of time to coincide with the release of the last movie in July and plus it gives time for everyone participating to read each book.

But of course if eight months is too long for you to wait to read them all, feel free to read them at your own pace. Hope you participate.

  • Mslioness874

My daughter has been urging me to read the HP Series for years, she’s more excited than I am about this challenge. I did finish the first book and…she was right, it is pretty good!

    • http://www.daemonstv.com/ Sandie

So glad you finally got around to start reading Harry Potter! And I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying it. It only gets better :)

Am I able to do my reviews on Visual Bookshelf via facebook? I log all of my books and reviews on there…I did create a Goodreads account, but that was only so that I could participate in this challenge! Thanks!

    • http://www.daemonstv.com/ Sandie

      Hi Heather,

The problem with Facebook is that there is no way for us to access those reviews unless your profile is open for everyone to see. Would it be possible for you to copy the reviews you write on Visual Bookshelf and post them on Goodreads as well?

Or if that doesn’t work you can also just participate by writing a comment on Daemon’s Books in the designated comment area (which will be up on February 1st, there will be a linked posted on this page next to the book title). You can even copy your review there if it’s easier for you.

      Hope that helps!

Ok, I’ll do one of the other two options then :) Thanks!

  • Elda

The same magic is operating again. I don’t think I would have read the books again without the challenge. Great idea, thank you

  • Sandi

not until they are available for my Kindle!

  • Rdenney

how long after the first of the month do we have to post it?

    • http://www.daemonstv.com/ Sandie

      Hi Rdenney,

You have until the end of the challenge to post the links to all your reviews/opinion pieces. Just make sure you provide to correct link under the proper post.

As of now you can post your link for Harry and the Sorcerer’s Stone here.
