Nora Roberts Named 2nd Most Charitable Celebrity

The Giving Back Fund recently released the 2010 Giving Back 30, their annual list of the most charitable celebrities. Unsurprisingly, Oprah Winfrey topped the list with donations over $40 million to the Oprah Winfrey Foundation and to the Angel Network. Author Nora Roberts came in at number two on the list with almost $4.5 million in donations. The Nora Roberts Foundation focuses on promoting literacy, but it also supports children’s programs, arts organizations, and humanitarian efforts.

In addition to Roberts, a few other authors made the list. Chilean author Isabel Allende is at number 12 with over $1 million in donations. Her foundation distributed grants to organizations whose missions are to provide women and girls with reproductive self-determination, healthcare, education, and protection from violence, exploitation, and/or discrimination. Dean and Gerda Koontz are also on the list at number 14. Their foundation distributed $1 million to a charity that trains assistance dogs for the disabled.

It’s so great to see that authors are spending their time and money giving back. Kudos to Nora Roberts, Isabel Allende, and Dean Koontz!
