2010 Nobel Winner Liu Xiaobo’s Work to be Published in English

Liu Xiaobo

A collection of poetry from Liu Xiaobo has been scheduled to be published in English for the first time ever. This year Xiaobo won the Nobel Peace Prize which was just awarded to him in a ceremony last Friday.

Xiaobo’s poetry is entitled “June Fourth Elegies” and provides a firsthand account of the tragedy at Tiananmen Square in 1989. Xiaobo was a 33 year old professor at the time and was part of a group leading a non-violent protest that provoked an aggressive response from the Chinese Army.

Xiaobo’s work will be published by Graywolf Press, a publishing group based in Minneapolis. Jeffrey Yang will translate the works which will be presented in both Chinese and English.
