Ally Condie’s “Matched” Novel Makes Smashing Debut

Ally Condie’s first major novel has gotten off to a smashing start. Her newest novel, and first attempt on the national stage, is entitled “Matched.” (Check out our Matched review here)

The novel is part of an expected trilogy that is garnering a lot of attention for the author. The story focuses on a young girl living in a society where teens are told whom to marry by the government. In the novel, the girl falls in love with a man other than her “ideal mate” as chosen by the government. Condie’s novel was published on November 30th with a 250,000 copy first printing. Foreign rights have been sold in 30 countries and film rights optioned to Disney.

Condie lives outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. A former teacher, Condie began writing after quitting her job to stay home with her newborn son. Between 2006 and 2010 she published five books slanted toward children, making “Matched” her first foray into fiction.
