Is Your City Among America’s ‘Most Literate?’

Washington, DC was the most well read city in the United States in 2010, according to a new study published by Central Connecticut State University.

The America’s Most Literate Cities study ranks the country’s largest metro areas (population at least 250,000) according to how much they read. The study uses six key indicators of literacy: newspaper circulation (including the number of online readers), number of bookstores, library resources, periodical publishing resources, educational attainment, and Internet resources (including the number of online book orders).

The top ten most literate cities in 2010 were:
1. Washington, DC
2. Seattle, Washington
3. Minneapolis, Minnesota
4. Atlanta, Georgia
5. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
6. San Francisco, California
7. St. Paul, Minnesota
8. Denver, Colorado
9. (tie) Portland, Oregon
9. (tie) St. Louis, Missouri

So what do you think of the study? Where does your city rank on the list?
