Amazon Kindle Sales Could Reach 12 Million in 2011

Barclays analyst Doug Anmuth estimates that Amazon sold about 7.1 Kindle e-readers last year and could sell as many as 12.3 million this year, according to SFGate.com.

He was also quick to point out that those numbers may still be conservative and Kindle sales (including devices and content) are reportedly expected to reach $3.3 billion in 2011. That comprises almost 8% of Amazon’s total revenue and the number is only expected to go up by 2013, possibly reaching $7 billion and representing up to 11% of Amazon’s revenue.

Anmuth had this to say:

“While a year ago there was much concern the iPad would materially impact sales of Amazon’s Kindle, despite taking some share we believe it has actually helped accelerate the market for eReaders and has broadened the reach of the Kindle bookstore.”
