PREACHER Adaptation to be Directed by D.J. Caruso

Preacher

The Hollywood adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s comic book series PREACHER is back on. Heat Vision reports that D. J. Caruso (‘I Am Number Four’) has signed on to direct it.

The Preacher series ran from 1995-2000 and centered on Jesse Custer, a down-and-out preacher from Texas who was possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity resulting from an unauthorized and unnatural coupling of a demon and an angel. Suddenly immensely powerful, Jesse set off on a journey across the United States to find God. He was joined on his quest by an old girlfriend and a hard-drinking vampire.

Sam Mendes was originally attached to direct Preacher, but he left to helm the next Bond film instead. Darren Aronofsky’s name was briefly floated as a replacement, but Caruso won the job after the buzz around ‘I Am Number Four.’ He will be directing from John August’s screenplay. Neal Moritz from Original Films will produce with Jason Netters from Kickstart Productions.

Preacher fans: how do you think this will translate on screen? Who would you want to see cast?
