HarperCollins Launches Social Reading Site BOOKPERK

Social shopping sites are all the rage lately with sites like Groupon and LivingSocial offering deals on everything from restaurants to skydiving. eBookNewser reports that HarperCollins has now jumped in with the launch of its social reading site Bookperk.

As with other social shopping sites, Bookperk users can take advantage of group discounts and get access to book-related events, as well as buy signed first edition copies of certain books. Current offers include the chance to buy a signed first edition copy of A Widow’s Story: A Memoir by Joyce Carol Oates and the chance to win a signed copy of First Step 2 Forever by Justin Bieber.

According to Claire Goldwitz, Product Manager of Bookperk,

“Authors are going beyond the written word and connecting with their audiences by hosting cocktail parties and skype chats, calling into book clubs and hosting workout sessions.”

I’ve been getting those Bookperk emails for a month or 2 now and they have some fun offers for book lovers. For example they had one for I Am Number Four which included the book and two movie tickets I think.

I hadn’t seen them before this, but I happily signed up for the e-mails. They seem to have a pretty good variety of offers and I always love a good deal. :)

Yeah it’s pretty nice, although I haven’t purchased anything yet, but as you say, I always love a good deal too :)
