HarperCollins Publishers has announced their acquirement of the U.S. and Canadian rights to publish bestselling author Amy Tan’s latest novel, THE VALLEY OF AMAZEMENT. The US deal was negotiated by Daniel Halpern, President and Publisher of Ecco, and by Tan’s agent, Sandra Dijkstra, President of Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency.

Tan said:

“The Valley of Amazement is a story about 1890-1940 San Francisco, Shanghai and the valley in-between. A painting called the ‘Valley of Amazement’ is passed along through three generations of women of the same family. Despite vast differences in their upbringing, culture and circumstances, each of the women is drawn to discover the meaning of the painting and the unknown histories of their mothers. I am delighted to be at Ecco and to be publishing my new novel with such an esteemed literary house.”

Halpern said:

“For so many years I’ve read Amy Tan with awe and admiration – and from the audience, listened to her as a rocker with The Rock Bottom Remainders. What a privilege it is for the Ecco team to be Amy’s new publisher.”

Amy Tan is the author of several bestselling novels, including The Joy Luck Club, The Kitchen God’s Wife, The Hundred Secret Senses, The Bonesetter’s Daughter and Saving Fish from Drowning. She is also the author of a collection of non-fiction essays entitled The Opposite of Fate: A Book of Musings and two children’s books, The Moon Lady and Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat.
