Billy Joel Cancels His Memoir

Remember that Billy Joel memoir that was due to be published in June? Yeah, it’s not happening. The Piano Man has pulled the plug on The Book of Joel, which was supposed to chronicle his marriage to Christie Brinkley, as well as provide insights on fatherhood and the ups and downs of fame.

In a statement to The Associated Press, Joel explains:

“It took working on writing a book to make me realize that I’m not all that interested in talking about the past, and that the best expression of my life and its ups and downs has been and remains my music.”

According to HarperCollins, the book was pretty far into the editing process, but not completely finished. They had planned to initially print 250,000 copies. HarperCollins made the $3 million book deal with Joel back in 2008, and he is expected to return the money he was paid for the memoir.

Well, that’s a bummer. I was looking forward to reading The Book of Joel. But you know what? I respect him for deciding some things should remain private and for walking away from $3 million. I don’t think too many people would have done that. What do you think? Are you disappointed about the cancellation of The Book of Joel?
