Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth are Peeta and Gale in THE HUNGER GAMES Movie

The Hunger Games movie has found its Peeta and Gale. Lionsgate announced today that Josh Hutcherson (The Kids are All Right) has been cast in the role of Peeta Mellark and Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song) will play Gale Hawthorne. They will star alongside Jennifer Lawrence, who is heroine Katniss Everdeen.

Just to clarify, in the above picture, Josh (Peeta) is on the left and Liam (Gale) is on the right.

The Hunger Game fans on Twitter seemed to have a mixed reaction to today’s news. Much of the criticism has to do with how old the actors are (Josh is 18, Liam is 21) and that they don’t necessarily look like the characters in the books. In The Hunger Games, Gale is described as having black hair, olive skin, gray eyes, and being very tall. Peeta is shorter and stockier than Gale, with blue eyes and blond hair.

I’m trying to keep an open mind about all The Hunger Games casting news because I’m really not familiar with any of these actors. Though, I gotta admit it’s hard! Liam Hemsworth is only 21, but in some pictures I’ve seen he looks much older. Anyway, I think the important thing is that Josh and Liam have chemistry with Jennifer Lawrence, and we won’t be able to judge that until we see the final product.

What do you think of the Peeta and Gale casting news? Do you think Josh and Liam can pull off these roles?
