Tom Hanks to Star in Wachowski-led CLOUD ATLAS Adaptation

Tom Hanks is set to star in the long-rumored film adaptation of David Mitchell’s novel CLOUD ATLAS, Deadline reports. Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) and Lana Wachowski (The Matrix) will direct from a script they are co-writing with Lana’s brother Andy Wachowski.

According to the book’s logline, the complex Cloud Atlas consists of six separate but interconnected narratives telling an epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution.

Both James McAvoy and Halle Berry have both been rumored to be involved with Cloud Atlas, but this is the first time an actor has been officially attached. Five Drops’ Grant Hill and Stefan Arndt will produce the film while Phillip Lee is on board as executive producer. Shooting is set to begin this September and Warner Bros. will distribute the film in North America while Focus Features will sell the international rights at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
