Confessions of a Shopaholic’s Isla Fisher Crashing THE GREAT GATSBY

One cast member is joining Baz Luhrmann’s 3D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s THE GREAT GATSBY, while another has dropped out of talks. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Isla Fisher (Confessions of a Shopaholic, Wedding Crashers) is now in talks to play Myrtle, a married woman having an affair with Tom Buchanan.

Coincidentally, Deadline says that Ben Affleck, who had been in talks to play Tom Buchanan, has had to reject the offer because of scheduling issues with his next directorial effort, the 1979 Iran hostage crisis film Argo. There is no word yet on who will replace Affleck. Any ideas?

After Luhrmann quickly cast Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, his production seemed to stall, so here’s hoping it’s back on track. I’ve always enjoyed reading The Great Gatsby, but I haven’t really liked any of the film adaptations, so I’m really hoping Luhrmann can pull this off. The 3D concerns me, as does shooting it in Australia, but I’m a Luhrmann fan, so I have faith. How good/bad do you think the movie will be?
