THE HUNGER GAMES Finds Its Haymitch In Woody Harrelson
Woody Harrelson has landed the role of Haymitch Abernathy in THE HUNGER GAMES, and that’s what I call another exciting casting. John C. Reilly had originally been in talks for the role, but looks like that didn’t pan out and I can’t say I’m too disappointed, I actually think Woody Harrelson will make a fantastic Haymitch.
Haymitch Abernathy is Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta’s (Josh Hutcherson) mentor and coach for the Hunger Games. He is also an alcoholic and the only living District 12 winner of the Hunger Games.
Here is what director Gary Ross had to say about the casting choice:
“Haymitch is such an unforgettable character: funny cranky outrageous, sarcastic, impatient, biting but ultimately kind. I’m so grateful we have Woody Harrelson to play him. I can’t wait for us to get to work.”
I think Ross captures the character of Haymitch perfectly and I can’t wait to see how Woody Harrelson interprets the part.
Thoughts? Is Woody Harrelson a good choice for Haymitch? And if not, who would you have cast?
