BEA 2011 Day 3: CROSSED By Ally Condie and much more…
I’m back with more news from Book Expo America (BEA) 2011 Day 3!!!
My shoulders are officially dead from carrying so many books. But on the positive side I did get my hands on some more exciting books, although I am now worried that my suitcase might end up being way too heavy for the trip back, yikes!
Once again I made my way to the Jarvis Center to get into the exhibition floor and get my hands on a signed copy of the book I am most excited about reading this year:
And if you follow me on Twitter (@sandiedaemons) you might already know that I did get my signed copy, yay!
The rest of the day was pretty much spent walking around the exhibition floor, grabbing books here and there, and going into line to get autographed copies.
I decided not to attend any panels today, so I don’t have any new Buzz books to share with you, but I did want to share a few books that I got my hands on that I’m really excited about:
THE MEDUSA PLOT (Vespers Vs. Cahills, #1) by Gordon Korman – Part of The 39 Clues – August 30, 2011
Synopsis: Thirteen-year-old Dan Cahill and his older sister, Amy thought they belonged to the world’s most powerful family. They thought the hunt for 39 Clues leading to the source of that power was over. They even thought they’d won. But Amy and Dan were wrong.
One by one, distress calls start coming in from around the globe. Cahills are being kidnapped by a shadowy group known only as the Vespers. Now Amy and Dan have just days to fulfill a bizarre ransom request or their captured friends will start dying. Amy and Dan don’t know what the Vespers want or how to stop them. Only one thing is clear. The Vespers are playing to win, and if they get their hands on the Clues… the world will be their next hostage.
FOREVER (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #3) by Maggie Stiefvater – July 12, 2011
Synopsis: The thrilling conclusion to #1 bestselling Shiver trilogy from Maggie Stievater
In Maggie Stiefvater’s SHIVER, Grace and Sam found each other. In LINGER, they fought to be together. Now, in FOREVER, the stakes are even higher than before. Wolves are being hunted. Lives are being threatened. And love is harder and harder to hold on to as death comes closing in.
LEGEND by Marie Lu – November 2011
Synopsis: The United States is gone, along with its flooded coasts. North America’s two warring nations, the western Republic and the eastern Colonies, have reached a breaking point. In the midst of this broken continent and dark new world are two teenagers who will go down in history….
Born into the slums of Los Angeles, fifteen-year old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. A mysterious boy with no recorded image or fingerprints. A boy who should no longer exist. A boy who watches over his family until one evening, when the plague patrols mark his family’s door with an X–the sign of plague infection. A death sentence for any family too poor to afford the antidote. Desperate, Day has no choice; he must steal it.
Born to an elite family in Los Angeles’ wealthy Ruby sector, fifteen-year old June is the Republic’s most promising prodigy. A superintelligent girl destined for great things in the country’s highest military circles. Obedient, passionate, and committed to her country–until the day her brother Metias is murdered while on patrol during a break-in at the plague hospital.
Only one person could be responsible.
And now it’s June’s mission to hunt him down.
The truth they’ll uncover will become legend.
ICEFALL by Matthew J. Kirby – October 2011
Synopsis: Matthew J. Kirby, author of THE CLOCKWORK THREE, deftly weaves a brand-new tale with chilling cleverness and subtle suspense that will leave readers racing breathlessly to the end.
Trapped in a hidden fortress tucked between towering mountains and a frozen sea, Solveig, along with her brother the crown prince, their older sister, and an army of restless warriors, anxiously awaits news of her father’s victory at battle. But as winter stretches on, and the unending ice refuses to break, terrible acts of treachery soon make it clear that a traitor lurks in their midst. A malevolent air begins to seep through the fortress walls, and a smothering claustrophobia slowly turns these prisoners of winter against one another.
Those charged with protecting the king’s children are all suspect, and the siblings must choose their allies wisely. But who can be trusted so far from their father’s watchful eye? Can Solveig and her siblings survive the long winter months and expose the traitor before he succeeds in destroying a kingdom?
That’s all I have for you today, but I once again leave you with a few photos that I took throughout the day, including some authors signing books. Enjoy and stay tuned for more tomorrow.
