Twilight’s Jamie Campbell Bower Is Jace Wayland In THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS
If you have been dying to know who would be playing the role of Jace Wayland in THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS movies, I can now tell you that Screen Gems has officially announced that Jamie Campbell Bower (The Twilight Saga, Camelot) will be playing the main character from the Cassandra Clare novel series.
You might recognize Jamie Campbell Bower from The Twilight Saga series as Caius or Starz’ series Camelot. In addition, Jamie Campbell Bower also appeared in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 & 2 as Gellert Grindelwald.
Bower joins already cast Lily Collins (Priest, Abduction), who plays lead heroine Clary Fray.
The series of books includes six novels, the fourth of which was released this past April. The last two books are scheduled to be released in the next two years.
I haven’t personally read the books, but I do have the first two books on my bookshelf waiting to be read. In addition, I have read Cassandra Clare’s prequel novel Clockwork Angel (see my review here) part of The Infernal Devices series, which takes place in the same universe. And so I’m really looking forward to seeing this world come to life.
I can’t say much about the casting of Jace Wayland since I don’t know much about the character, but I can say that Jamie Campbell Bower is a really talented actor, so I’m excited to see what he does with the role.
Here is the official synopsis from the first book in the series, City of Bones:
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder – much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing – not even a smear of blood – to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know….
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare’s ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.
Thoughts? Are you happy about this casting? Is Jamie Campbell Bower how you pictured Jace? Are you looking forward to the movie?
