Jennifer Hudson Signs Deal for Weight Loss Memoir

Jennifer Hudson, the former American Idol contestant and Academy Award-winning actress/singer, is writing a memoir about her struggle with weight loss. Dutton, an imprint of Penguin, will publish the untitled book in January 2012—just in time for everyone looking to shed those holiday pounds.

Hudson has reportedly lost 80 pounds since becoming a spokesperson for Weight Watchers. In the book, she’ll offer advice on exercise and dealing with weight issues. According to a press release at USA Today:

The book … will chronicle Hudson’s experience growing up in an environment where healthy living was not a priority, to dealing with talk of her weight as she competed on American Idol and won her first Oscar, to her eventual decision to get healthy after the birth of her son, and her success losing weight with the help of Weight Watchers. Now, 80 pounds lighter, Hudson wants to inspire anyone coping with weight issues, share some of her own best tips for losing and maintaining weight loss, fitting in exercise and keeping it fun and much more.

Rumors about a Jennifer Hudson penned weight loss book had been swirling since a Page Six article last week claimed publishers were balking at her seven-figure asking price. Apparently, for a $1 million deal, publishers wanted her to write about the tragic murders of her family members in 2008, which she isn’t ready to do. There’s no word on how much the deal with Dutton is worth.
