Even though Walk This Way has been out for a little over 10 years, I thought I’d review it anyway as it’s one of my favorites. Nothing irks me more than when the band Aerosmith is brought up in conversation and people immediately go to that “Armageddon” song, or make a comment on Steven Tyler’s looks. I would be so bummed if that’s how one of America’s greatest rock bands is remembered. In truth, Aerosmith is one of the last shreds of living proof that rock stars really existed. If you don’t believe me, check out the book, and you will more than likely change your mind.

Walk This Way will take you back to a time before, cell phones, video games, internet, or even CDs. I’m talking about the 1970s, a time when music was purchased and rock stars were idolized. If you were a fan of a particular band, they weren’t your friend on facebook, and you didn’t receive updates on their every move from twitter. If you wanted to feel close to the them you had go to their show or put on their record.

Narrated by the band, with the help of Stephen Davis, Walk This Way will give you an honest and dirty account of Aerosmith’s rise to the top. It’s more than just groupies, drugs, and rock n roll. It’s interventions, prostitutes, heroin, and jail. At times you’ll find yourself thinking “Wow, I really don’t like these people”, while in other sections you are rooting for them to succeed.

Another great thing about this book is all the music history it contains. Aerosmith formed in 1970, so there is nearly 30 years worth of music history contained in its pages. You’ll get all the dirt on the other bands, agents, and girlfriends of the times. You don’t have to be a fan of Aerosmith to enjoy this book, but it would be near impossible to not have a new found respect for them after.

Buy Walk This Way by Aerosmith & Stephen Davis on Amazon.
