HarperCollins recently announced a new two-book deal with Sex and the City creator Candace Bushnell. Few details about the new books are available, but in a press release HarperCollins says the novels will be written for a young adult audience.

Bushnell’s first YA novel, The Carrie Diaries, was released in 2010 and it debuted at number 1 on the New York Times bestseller list. The book introduced a teenage Carrie Bradshaw navigating her senior year of high school during the 1980s. The sequel, Summer and the City, will be out April 26th. It’s about Carrie’s first summer in New York City, and explains how she first meets Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha.

Ann-Janine Murtagh, Publisher at HarperCollins Children’s Books UK, commented on the deal:

“We’re thrilled to have acquired a further two books by Candace Bushnell with our US colleagues. The young Carrie Bradshaw has endeared herself to readers everywhere and we can’t wait to read more of her new adventures as she grows up with her audience. We look forward to some exceptionally exciting publishing.”

The above quote makes it sound like the new books will feature Carrie Bradshaw, but according to Entertainment Weekly, that’s undecided. Bushnell tells EW that “Working on The Carrie Diaries and Summer and the City was an exciting and rewarding experience. I’m looking forward to writing more novels for young adults.”

In the new book, the publisher reveals, readers will follow Carrie as “she learns to navigate the Big Apple.” During this “summer of firsts,” Carrie will begin her love affair with New York City, make lifelong friends, and meet some fascinating guys that populated her early life.

Summer and the City will be released on April 26, 2011.

Grand Central Publishing has announced that Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell will write two new books, although neither will feature Carrie Bradshaw.

The first book, The Two Mrs. Stones, will be about a love triangle and is expected in 2012. There are no details about the second book.

Bushnell’s latest book The Carrie Diaries, which came out in April, is a young adult prequel to Sex and the City. It’s about a teenage Carrie Bradshaw navigating her senior year of high school and has received positive reviews (check out I Was a Teenage Book Geek’s review).

Lipstick Jungle, published in 2005, was Bushnell’s last adult release. I thought the book was just so-so, but it was popular enough to inspire the NBC TV show of the same name.

Even though I didn’t love Lipstick Jungle, I’m curious about the new book. Are any of you Sex and the City fans excited about The Two Mrs. Stones?
