HarperCollins recently announced a new two-book deal with Sex and the City creator Candace Bushnell. Few details about the new books are available, but in a press release HarperCollins says the novels will be written for a young adult audience.

Bushnell’s first YA novel, The Carrie Diaries, was released in 2010 and it debuted at number 1 on the New York Times bestseller list. The book introduced a teenage Carrie Bradshaw navigating her senior year of high school during the 1980s. The sequel, Summer and the City, will be out April 26th. It’s about Carrie’s first summer in New York City, and explains how she first meets Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha.

Ann-Janine Murtagh, Publisher at HarperCollins Children’s Books UK, commented on the deal:

“We’re thrilled to have acquired a further two books by Candace Bushnell with our US colleagues. The young Carrie Bradshaw has endeared herself to readers everywhere and we can’t wait to read more of her new adventures as she grows up with her audience. We look forward to some exceptionally exciting publishing.”

The above quote makes it sound like the new books will feature Carrie Bradshaw, but according to Entertainment Weekly, that’s undecided. Bushnell tells EW that “Working on The Carrie Diaries and Summer and the City was an exciting and rewarding experience. I’m looking forward to writing more novels for young adults.”

What do you think about this news? Are you excited to read more from Candace Bushnell?

Grand Central Publishing has announced that Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell will write two new books, although neither will feature Carrie Bradshaw.

The first book, The Two Mrs. Stones, will be about a love triangle and is expected in 2012. There are no details about the second book.

Bushnell’s latest book The Carrie Diaries, which came out in April, is a young adult prequel to Sex and the City. It’s about a teenage Carrie Bradshaw navigating her senior year of high school and has received positive reviews (check out I Was a Teenage Book Geek’s review).

Lipstick Jungle, published in 2005, was Bushnell’s last adult release. I thought the book was just so-so, but it was popular enough to inspire the NBC TV show of the same name.

Even though I didn’t love Lipstick Jungle, I’m curious about the new book. Are any of you Sex and the City fans excited about The Two Mrs. Stones?

From the publisher:
In the bestselling tradition of Loving Frank and March comes a novel for anyone who loves Little Women.

Millions of readers have fallen in love with Little Women. But how could Louisa May Alcott-who never had a romance-write so convincingly of love and heart-break without experiencing it herself?

Deftly mixing fact and fiction, Kelly O’Connor McNees imagines a love affair that would threaten Louisa’s writing career-and inspire the story of Jo and Laurie in Little Women. Stuck in small-town New Hampshire in 1855, Louisa finds herself torn between a love that takes her by surprise and her dream of independence as a writer in Boston. The choice she must make comes with a steep price that she will pay for the rest of her life.

Long ago, Susan Rodriguez was Harry Dresden’s lover-until she was attacked by his enemies, leaving her torn between her own humanity and the bloodlust of the vampiric Red Court. Susan then disappeared to South America, where she could fight both her savage gift and those who cursed her with it.

Now Arianna Ortega, Duchess of the Red Court, has discovered a secret Susan has long kept, and she plans to use it-against Harry. To prevail this time, he may have no choice but to embrace the raging fury of his own untapped dark power. Because Harry’s not fighting to save the world…

From the publisher:

In the mid-nineteenth century, a young man named Claude Monet decided that he would rather endure a difficult life painting landscapes than take over his father’s nautical supplies business in a French seaside town. Against his father’s will, and with nothing but a dream and an insatiable urge to create a new style of art that repudiated the Classical Realism of the time, he set off for Paris.

But once there he is confronted with obstacles: an art world that refused to validate his style, extreme poverty, and a war that led him away from his home and friends. But there were bright spots as well: his deep, enduring friendships with men named Renoir, Cézanne, Pissarro, Manet – a group that together would come to be known as the Impressionists, and that supported each other through the difficult years. But even more illuminating was his lifelong love, Camille Doncieux, a beautiful, upper-class Parisian girl who threw away her privileged life to be by the side of the defiant painter and embrace the lively Bohemian life of their time.

His muse, his best friend, his passionate lover, and the mother to his two children, Camille stayed with Monet-and believed in his work-even as they lived in wretched rooms, were sometimes kicked out of those, and often suffered the indignities of destitution. She comforted him during his frequent emotional torments, even when he would leave her for long periods to go off on his own to paint in the countryside.

But Camille had her own demons – secrets that Monet could never penetrate, including one that when eventually revealed would pain him so deeply that he would never fully recover from its impact. For though Camille never once stopped loving the painter with her entire being, she was not immune to the loneliness that often came with being his partner.

A vividly-rendered portrait of both the rise of Impressionism and of the artist at the center of the movement, Claude and Camille is above all a love story of the highest romantic order.

Wedding baker Laurel McBane is surrounded by romance working at Vows wedding planning company with her best friends Parker, Emma, and Mac. But she’s too low-key to appreciate all the luxuries that their clients seem to long for.
But some infatuations last longer than others, and Laurel is convinced that the Ivy League lawyer is still out of her reach. Plus, Del is too protective of Laurel to ever cross the line with her-or so she thinks.

From the publisher:

The Carrie Diaries is the coming-of-age story of one of the most iconic characters of our generation.

Before Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw was a small-town girl who knew she wanted more. She’s ready for real life to start, but first she must navigate her senior year of high school. Up until now, Carrie and her friends have been inseparable. Then Sebastian Kydd comes into the picture, and a friend’s betrayal makes her question everything.

With an unforgettable cast of characters, The Carrie Diaries is the story of how a regular girl learns to think for herself and evolves into a sharp, insightful writer. Readers will learn about her family background, how she found her writing voice, and the indelible impression her early friendships and relationships left on her. Through adventures both audacious and poignant, we’ll see what brings Carrie to her beloved New York City, where her new life begins.
