I’ve got good news for anyone eagerly awaiting volume 2 of the Twilight graphic novel: Yen Press, an imprint of Hachette, has announced that it will be released on October 11, 2011 (you can see the cover above). This is about a month before Breaking Dawn: Part 1 hits movie theaters on November 18th.

Apparently the first volume of the graphic novel adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight was quite a success. Kurt Hassler, Yen Press Publishing Director, said in a release, “The first volume of the Twilight graphic novel was an utter phenomenon in the category, and the reception by Stephenie’s fans was absolutely overwhelming.” Volume 2 will have a first printing of 350,000 copies.

“Knowing how beautifully Young Kim rendered the Twilight universe in the first volume, I couldn’t wait for this next one,” remarked Meyer. “Her illustrations of characters and settings gorgeously capture the world and are very close to what I saw in my mind’s eye while writing Twilight.”

The press release goes on to say:
A visually arresting retelling of the story that has captured the hearts and minds of countless fans, Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 2 contains selected text from Meyer’s original novel with illustrations by the talented Korean artist Young Kim. Kim’s unique artistic style which combines Asian and Western comic techniques are showcased in this black-and-white graphic novel with color interspersed throughout. Meyer consulted throughout the artistic process and had input on every panel.

Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 2 will be released as an ebook and in hardcover on October 11, 2011.

YA author Becca Fitzpatrick is expanding into graphic novels. She recently signed a deal with Sea Lion Books to publish her first book, Hush, Hush, as a graphic novel. Hush, Hush #1 will debut later this year.

In a statement Fitzpatrick said:

“Hush, Hush was my first book, and it’s so thrilling that it has been embraced by so many readers. I’m delighted to be working with Sea Lion to tell Patch and Nora’s story through graphic novel format!”

Hush, Hush is the first book in a trilogy about a teenage girl, Nora Grey, and a fallen angel named Patch. The third book, Silence, will be in bookstores on October 4, 2011.

Given the gorgeous book covers for Hush, Hush and Crescendo, I think there are high expectations for the graphic novel. What do you think? Are you excited for a Hush, Hush graphic novel?

Website Graphic.ly (known for comic books and graphic novels) has finally launched its very own Android app, according to Mashable.com.

Before this, Android users have had to watch enviously from the sidelines as the company first released apps for web, desktop, iPhone and iPad. Now they finally get their turn as the company’s vast library of 2,000 comics becomes available to the 22 million Android users around the world, as well.

In a release, Graphic.ly CEO Micah Baldwin said:

“Like our community, we are firm believers in the explosion of the Android market. Being the first to provide Marvel Comics on the Android platform is a perfect example of that belief. This application is only the beginning of the expansion of our relationship with Google.”

The new Android application features a full store front and if you’ve already bought comics via the iOS, web or other apps, you can now sync your library with your Android device.

The app also supports “Graphic.ly View,” which means that on a smaller screen, users can read comics frame by frame rather than page by page. They can also download comics for later, unconnected reading.

When I was at Kim Harrison’s blog yesterday looking at the Pale Demon book tour dates, I noticed she recently posted the cover of Blood Work: An Original Hollows Graphic Novel. You can see the cover above and she has even more artwork and information available on her blog. That’s the good news. The bad news is that we have to wait until July to see the rest of it!

Blood Work is a prequel to the Hollows series and takes place during the time Rachel and Ivy worked together at the IS. Rachel, just starting her career as a runner, is an intern partnered with the more experienced Ivy. Unlike the book series, the graphic novel will be told from Ivy’s point of view. And since it’s a prequel, Kisten will be a part of the story too.

Blood Work will be out on July 12, 2011.

Created by the critically-acclaimed team behind THE HUNTER, STARMAKER: LEVIATHAN is a 425 page sci-fi epic published in four parts. Still in the process of being published, the full plot for STARMAKER: LEVIATHAN is currently locked away in a secret location, which is guarded by lasers. What is known is this: Jacob Carter’s parents died when he was a young child. He was kidnapped by their assistant Victor Kord, who was convinced that Jacob s parents were part of a global conspiracy known as the Leviathan. Kord indoctrinated Jacob to smash the conspiracy.
Fans of Scott Pilgrim, this is the moment we have been waiting for, the cover art for Volume 6, Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour, has been revealed as well as the release date.

And so we will be able to get our hands on the finale of the brilliant Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series, Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour, on July 20th, 2010 at comic shops and bookstores across North America. And here is the kicker, the movie Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (watch the trailer here) will be released a few weeks later on August 13, 2010. However the ending of the book will be different from the movie, which is kind of exciting because it’s kind of double the fun.

Here is what Bryan Lee O’Malley had to say about the last volume of Scott Pilgrim:

“It’s been quite a ride, and I couldn’t have gotten here without the support of the fans and the retailers,” said O’Malley. “It feels great to be in the home stretch, and I think this is going to be the best Scott Pilgrim book ever!”

I haven’t reviewed a graphic novel for Daemon’s Books before, but issue 32 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is just so awesome that I couldn’t resist. It’s the first issue written by Brad Meltzer and the first in the Twilight arc, a four-issue arc in which we will finally learn the identity of the mysterious big bad of Season 8. The big reveal will take place in the next issue, though it’s been nearly impossible to avoid the spoilers so I think most of us already know who it is. For now though it’s still a secret and in this issue, Buffy explores her newfound powers of flight and super speed. Meanwhile, Willow realizes that Giles, Andrew and Faith are missing, and while trying to find them she discovers the source of Buffy’s superpowers.

This issue and all it’s Superman/superhero references (Buffy’s faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive) were a whole lot of geeky fun. The raging battle and slayer deaths of the past few issues have made them kind of dark, so a more lighthearted story was welcome. Unfortunately for Buffy, the fun comes to an abrupt end when she realizes where her new powers are coming from. It’s a twist I didn’t see coming and I’m interested to see where they take the story from here.

I feel like Meltzer really gets Buffy and he did an amazing job of capturing each character’s voice. The banter between Xander and Buffy, for example, was just perfect. Meltzer (in keeping with the superhero theme, I think) includes captions to introduce each character, for example: “Xander. Buffy’s best friend. One eye. Funny. Mostly.” You don’t find out who’s saying the introductions until about halfway through, which was a little confusing, but I’m willing to overlook that because they were so hilarious.

I continue to enjoy Georges Jeanty’s art and I think he captures Buffy and Willow particularly well. Between that and the spot-on dialogue in this issue, I almost felt as if I was watching an episode of the TV show. To me, it just doesn’t get better than that.

Overall, I think Brad Meltzer’s first issue was a huge success and I can’t wait for the next issue. I haven’t been this excited about Buffy for a while and I have high hopes that Joss Whedon is going to wrap up Season 8 in an unforgettable way.
