But I’m about to get something no one else does—an encore performance, thanks to Emma, the long-lost twin sister I never even got to meet.

Now Emma’s desperate to know what happened to me. And the only way to figure it out is to be me—to slip into my old life and piece it all together. But can she laugh at inside jokes with my best friends? Convince my boyfriend she’s the girl he fell in love with? Pretend to be a happy, carefree daughter when she hugs my parents good night? And can she keep up the charade, even after she realizes my murderer is watching her every move?

From Sara Shepard, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Pretty Little Liars books, comes a riveting new series about secrets, lies, and killer consequences.

Let the lying game begin.

From the publisher:
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis never wrote a memoir, but she told her life story and revealed herself in intimate ways through the nearly 100 books she brought into print during the last two decades of her life as an editor at Viking and Doubleday. Based on archives and interviews with Jackie’s authors, colleagues, and friends, Reading Jackie mines this significant period of her life to reveal both the serious and the mischievous woman underneath the glamorous public image.

Though Jackie had a reputation for avoiding publicity, she willingly courted controversy in her books. She was the first editor to commission a commercially-successful book telling the story of Thomas Jefferson’s relationship with his female slave. Her publication of Gelsey Kirkland’s attack on dance icon George Balanchine caused another storm. Jackie rarely spoke of her personal life, but many of her books ran parallel to, echoed, and emerged from her own experience. She was the editor behind bestsellers on the assassinations of Tsar Nicholas II and John Lennon, and in another book she paid tribute to the allure of Marilyn Monroe and Maria Callas. Her other projects take us into territory she knew well: journeys to Egypt and India, explorations of the mysteries of female beauty and media exploitation, into the minds of photographers, art historians, and the designers at Tiffany & Co.

Many Americans regarded Jackie as the paragon of grace, but few knew her as the woman sitting on her office floor laying out illustrations, or flying to California to persuade Michael Jackson to write his autobiography. Reading Jackie provides a compelling behind-the-scenes look at Jackie at work: how she commissioned books and nurtured authors, as well as how she helped to shape stories that spoke to her strongly. Jackie is remembered today for her marriages to JFK and to Aristotle Onassis, but her real legacy is the books that reveal the tastes, recollections, and passions of an independent woman.

From the publisher:
Refugee. Queen. Saint. In eleventh-century Scotland, a young woman strives to fulfill her destiny despite the risks . . .

Shipwrecked on the Scottish coast, a young Saxon princess and her family—including the outlawed Edgar of England—ask sanctuary of the warrior-king Malcolm Canmore, who shrewdly sees the political advantage. He promises to aid Edgar and the Saxon cause in return for the hand of Edgar’s sister, Margaret, in marriage.

A foreign queen in a strange land, Margaret adapts to life among the barbarian Scots, bears princes, and shapes the fierce warrior Malcolm into a sophisticated ruler. Yet even as the king and queen build a passionate and tempestuous partnership, the Scots distrust her. When her husband brings Eva, a Celtic bard, to court as a hostage for the good behavior of the formidable Lady Macbeth, Margaret expects trouble. Instead, an unlikely friendship grows between the queen and her bard, though one has a wild Celtic nature and the other follows the demanding path of obligation.
Torn between old and new loyalties, Eva is bound by a vow to betray the king and his Saxon queen. Soon imprisoned and charged with witchcraft and treason, Eva learns that Queen Margaret—counseled by the furious king and his powerful priests—will decide her fate and that of her kinswoman Lady Macbeth. But can the proud queen forgive such deep treachery?

Impeccably researched, a dramatic page-turner, Queen Hereafter is an unforgettable story of shifting alliances and the tension between fear and trust as a young woman finds her way in a dangerous world.

From the publisher:
The solar system most of us grew up with included nine planets, with Mercury closest to the sun and Pluto at the outer edge. Then, in 2005, astronomer Mike Brown made the discovery of a lifetime: a tenth planet, Eris, slightly bigger than Pluto. But instead of its resulting in one more planet being added to our solar system, Brown’s find ignited a firestorm of controversy that riled the usually sedate world of astronomy and launched him into the public eye. The debate culminated in the demotion of Pluto from real planet to the newly coined category of “dwarf” planet. Suddenly Brown was receiving hate mail from schoolchildren and being bombarded by TV reporters—all because of the discovery he had spent years searching for and a lifetime dreaming about.

Filled with both humor and drama, How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming is Mike Brown’s engaging first-person account of the most tumultuous year in modern astronomy—which he inadvertently caused. As it guides readers through important scientific concepts and inspires us to think more deeply about our place in the cosmos, it is also an entertaining and enlightening personal story: While Brown sought to expand our understanding of the vast nature of space, his own life was changed in the most immediate, human ways by love, birth, and death. A heartfelt and personal perspective on the demotion of everyone’s favorite farflung planet, How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming is the book for anyone, young or old, who has ever dreamed of exploring the universe—and who among us hasn’t?

<a href="http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100808/ENT05/8080358/1362/ENT/Is-Michigan-born-authors-vampire-series-the-next-"Twilight"&template=fullarticle">The Detroit Free Press recently interviewed Richelle Mead, author of the crazy popular Vampire Academy series, and the Michigan native talked about the books and the movie adaptation that is in the works. Mead sold the movie rights to Vampire Academy about a month ago to Preger Entertainment. Michael Preger is producing the movie, along with Don Murphy, whose credits include Transformers and Real Steel. They want to create a film franchise that will appeal to both male and female fans. Preger told the Free Press, “We’re not just going for a movie, we’re hoping for a series of films.”

However, when talking about the movie, Mead sounds less enthusiastic. She met with Preger and Murphy at the recent San Diego Comic Con and she says, “I’m hopeful. I’ve met the guys. They’re great. They love the books. But for me, it’s very easy to put this on the back burner. The options are sold, but it’s not something I’m thinking about most of the time. My focus is the books, because that’s what I do.”

Vampire Academy fans are obviously super excited about the prospect of the movie and are weighing in with their opinions on the Facebook page set up by Preger Entertainment. According to Michael Preger, “casting is a huge issue and there’s a very active debate between the groups there as to whether we should be going with established cast or unknowns.”

So what do Vampire Academy fans think about the movie? Who would you like to see play Rose, Lissa, and Dmitri? Let me know in the comments.

Tantalize by Cynthia Leitich Smith
Like Twilight, Tantalize is about humans, vampires, and werewolves. The story is narrated by seventeen-year-old Quincie who, along with her uncle, is reopening the family restaurant in Austin, Texas with a vampire theme. When the chef at the restaurant is murdered, werewolf and Quincie’s best friend, Kieren, is the prime suspect.

Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause
She’s all alone when she meets the mysterious vampire Simon. He understands what she’s going through and they help each other with the emotions that come with death.

Boys that Bite (The Blood Coven series) by Mari Mancusi
For a funny take on vampires, try the adventures of identical twins Rayne and Sunshine. Sunny gets mistaken for her Goth twin and is bitten by a vampire. She has a limited time to reverse it, or she’ll be a vampire forever. The series starts with Boys that Bite and continues with Stake That, Girls that Growl, and Bad Blood.

Need by Carrie Jones
Need takes place on the opposite coast as Forks, in small town Maine where the weather is cold and snowy. Zara is sent to live with her grandmother after her stepfather passes away in the hopes that it will help her deal with her grief. She soon finds out that an evil pixie king is following her. The natural enemy of the pixie is the werewolf, but luckily there’s a population of them in town.

Look For Me By Moonlight by Mary Downing Hahn
This one starts with a premise that is similar to Twilight, but with a much more sinister vampire. Cynda is sent to live with her estranged father who runs an old inn on the coast of Maine. She falls for one of the guests, the mysterious and handsome Vincent. She knows there is something dangerous about him, but she is drawn to him anyway.

In the Forests of the Night (Den of Shadows series) by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Risika is a 300 hundred-year-old vampire and the story goes back and forth from when she was turned into a vampire and the present day. In the present, she must battle her vampire rival, Aubrey. This was first published in 1999 when the author was only 15 years old. There are three more books in the series: Demon in My View, Shattered Mirror, and Midnight Predator.

Vampire Diaries: The Awakening by L. J. Smith
If you like Edward, you will probably also be into Stefan, star of the Vampire Diaries series. He’s a hot, broody vampire with a fast car that’s trying to live as a “vegetarian.” While trying to blend into the community by attending high school, he meets Elena. It may sound like a Twilight rip-off, but it was actually published first. Stefan’s archenemy is also his brother, bad boy vampire Damon.

Night World Number 1: Secret Vampire; Daughters of Darkness; Spellbinder by L.J. Smith
This collection of three stories is the first entry in the popular Night World series. Vampires, werewolves, witches, and shape shifters make up the secret society of the Night World. There are two rules for their world: don’t fall in love with a human and don’t tell anyone about the Night World.

House of Night series by PC and Kristin Cast
The House of Night series is what you get if you take the vampires from Twilight and combine them with Hogwart’s boarding school from Harry Potter. Teenagers with the vampire DNA mutation attend House of Night boarding schools where they transition into adult vampires, although not everyone survives the change. The series starts with Marked, and continues with Betrayed, Chosen, and Untamed.

Evernight by Claudia Gray
Sixteen-year-old Bianca is forced to attend the Evernight boarding school when her parents become professors there. She finds that she doesn’t fit in with the other students who all seem beautiful and sophisticated. She connects with another outsider, Lucas, and their forbidden relationship has been compared to that of Bella and Edward. There’s also a sequel titled Stargazer.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
To continue the boarding school theme, Vampire Academy is about vampires and their guardians who train at St. Vladimir’s Academy. Rose is a halfblood who is training to become the guardian of Lissa, a mortal vampire. Along the way, Rose falls for her hunky fight instructor, Dmitri.

Wings by Aprilynne Pike
There are no vampires in this novel, but Twilight fans might like the love triangle between Laurel, nice guy David, and the faerie Tamini. Laurel meets David when she begins to attend public school for the first time as a sophomore. She’s different from the other kids, the most obvious difference being the wing-like blossom that sprouts from her back.

Glass Houses (Morganville Vampires series) by Rachel Caine
Morganville, Texas is home to Texas Prairie University and also happens to be run by vampires. Sixteen-year-old Claire isn’t aware of this when she enrolls for her freshman year at TPU. She ends up living off-campus at the Glass House where her new roommates clue her in about what is really happening in Morganville. The only similarity to Twilight is the vampires, but the younger crowd should enjoy it. Read my full review here.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Angel Chronicles Volume 3 by Nancy Holder
This is a novelization of three outstanding episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Surprise, Innocence, and Passion. As the slayer, Buffy is supposed to kill vampires, but she can’t help but be attracted to vampire-with-a-soul Angel. Unfortunately, there are deadly consequences for their forbidden love.
