Do you like picking your own berries, Yoga, and David Sedaris? If so, you can probably relate to Christian Lander’s blog-turned-book, Stuff White People Like (read Amie’s review). Thanks to the success of the 2008 book, he now has a deal with Random House Trade Paperbacks for book number two, Whiter Shades of Pale: The Stuff White People Like from Coast to Coast from Seattle’s Sweaters to Maine’s Microbrews.

Whiter Shades of Pale is due on November 23, 2010. Check out the summary from Random House:

Sure, their indie-band T-shirts, trendy politics, vegan diets, and pop-culture references make them all seem the same. Where do skinny jeans and bulky sweaters rule? Where is down-market beer the nectar of the hip? What are the capitals of vintage board games, Vespa scooters, Birkenstocks, and Frisbee sports? If you want to know the places cute girls with bangs and cool guys with beards roam and emo musicians and unpaid interns call home, you’d better switch off the Adult Swim reruns, put down that copy of The Onion, pick up this book, and prepare to see the white.

Today I came across an amusing web site and book by the name of “Stuff White People Like” (stuffwhitepeoplelike.com). I’m not a big fan of stereotyping but this book/site has pretty much nailed me. It lists over 100 items that white people like. Here are a few that are true for me:

David Sedaris
Expensive sandwiches
Promising to learn a new language
Hating people who wear Ed Hardy

Here are a few things that weren’t true for me but are for a lot of white people:

Marathons
Snowboarding
Appearing to enjoy classical music
Vespa scooters

After reading the complete list I’m not sure if this is actually a list of Stuff White People Like than rather a list of things young liberals like. I say that because I’m not sure all white people enjoy the likes of:

The Daily Show
Public Radio
Free Healthcare

Nevertheless, this is a fun book and it should make you laugh (unless you are a white person that likes # 101 on the list which is “being offended”).
