Guillermo del Toro’s AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS May Begin Shooting This Summer

Looks like Guillermo del Toro’s journey into the heart of H.P. Lovecraft’s eldritch horror is really happening. According to producer Don Murphy (Transformers) who’s producing AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS along with James Cameron, confirmed the movie’s start date as well as the star.

Quotes on the site said that Murphy reported the movie is “supposed to shoot in June” and Tom Cruise is set to star in it. He also reportedly added that the script is very close to the H.P. Lovecraft source material.

However, they also report that another source told them that neither the start date, nor Cruise starring in the film, are really set in stone just yet. So I guess we’ll have to wait and see how those facts work themselves out.

We can tell you a little bit more about the book though, here’s a synopsis:

A complete short novel, At The Mountains Of Madness is a tale of terror unilke any other. The Barren, windswept interior of the Antarctic plateau was lifeless-or so the expedition from Miskatonic University thought. Then they found the strange fossils of unheard-of creatures…and the carved stones tens of millions of years old…and, finally, the mind-blasting terror of the City of the Old Ones.

We also can say that Ron Perlman has reported that he’s in the movie, playing a newly invented character, a “dog-sled guy” who’s more no-nonsense than the academics and intellectuals on the mission.
