THE HUNGER GAMES may end up being the best thing ever to happen to a slew of previously unknown young actors. Per its Facebook page , the film has cast the Tributes from District Three with newcomers Ian Nelson and Kalia Prescott.
These Tributes aren’t named in Suzanne Collins’ novel, but Nelson’s character is technologically and electronically gifted (District 3 is Panem’s electronics-producing region, after all), making him of great use to the Careers. Prescott’s character, meanwhile, has a heartwrenching farewell with her family when her name is called on Reaping Day.
Nelson and Prescott are the seventh and eighth tributes cast, following Jack Quaid and Leven Rambin, District 1’s Marvel and Glimmer, Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg, District 11’s Thresh and Rue, and of course, Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence, District 12’s Peeta and the all-important Katniss.
This will be Nelson’s first film, while Prescott has an uncredited appearance as one of Max’s classmates in Where the Wild Things Are under her belt. She’s also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do who did stunts for The Santa Clause 3 and the upcoming Red Dawn.
The Hunger Games brings dystopia to theaters March 23, 2012.
